Console Wars: E3 2010 Wrap Up

June 18, 2010

I really hate to do this again so soon, but today's comic is another edition of Console Wars. The reason why I feel bad is the Console Wars format of comics has to be preeetty much the laziest way for me to make a comic, but it just seemed the best way to comment of this year's E3.

And speaking of E3, how about that Nintendo! I'll just say this, any one who gives Nintendo shit for having bad third party support can take their head out of their ass. I know I've said it before and I'll say it again: Nintendo doesn't need third party support! They make the best first party games out there. With a new Legend of Zelda, a new Metroid, a new Donkey Kong, a new Kirby and after almost two decades of waiting, finally a new Kid Icarus game. Yeah I'm pretty sure Nintendo could give a shit about not having a game like Gears of War 3 or Killzone 3 when they have so many big name games of their own, that unlike Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo fully owns.

Oh, and speaking of third party games: GoldenEye remake! Who got that? Nintendo. For those of you who don't what I'm talking about, back in the day, Rare and Nintendo teamed up to make a game based on GoldenEye from the James Bond movie franchise. What resulted was the Grandaddy of all console first-person shooters and arguable the best movie game ever made. Frankly, if there wasn't a GoldenEye there wouldn't be a Halo, or Geaars of War, or Killzone, but I digress.

Since then, Rare has been purchased by Microsoft, putting the rights to a GoldenEye remake in limbo. I don't know the exact details that lead to Nintendo getting the rights to make this game, but I can assure you Microsoft is kicking themselves over not getting it. My only complaint about the remake is that they're having Daniel Craig do the voice of Bond, while yes, Craig is the current incarnation of Bond, I'm sure I'm not the only one here who would much rather see Pierce Brosnan, the actual Bond from the GoldenEye movie, voice the Bond in the new GoldenEye game, but I suppose that is a minor complaint.
