So the other day real world Brad informed me that the fan made Mega Man movie was finished. I'd had heard about the movie for a while. I saw the trailer that was released about a year ago, but quickly forgot about it, and now that I've seen it I can honestly say in a few weeks I'll probably forget about it too.
Now I don't really feel right bad mouthing a fan made film, it was made with next to no budget and it free to watch on the intronets, but my inner fanboy still rages with an opinion that demands to be heard! Lucky for me I just so happen to have an outlet to vent said rage.
First off I have to say the acting sucks, with few exceptions. The guy playing Dr. Wily stole the show with his over the top wackiness, he's exactly the way I'd picture Dr. Wily in real life. I also like the girl playing Roll, now a few people say they didn't like her cause they found her annoying. I say Roll is supposed to be annoying. There's a difference between annoying acting, and acting annoying. Everyone else reallly, they're wooden and one dimentional, which I guess makes them paper, but paper acting aside there and other things to complain about.
Another thing I found distracting was the CGI work. For some reason they choose to make Guts Man, Cut Man and Bomb Man CGI models while all the other Robot Masters were guys in costumes. They just seemed out of place compared to the other three Robot Masters and would have been a lot better off just skipping the CGI and using three more people. The effects however were great, but the models themselves just looked rushed as they weren't really textured, just solid colors that were perfecctly flat and really shiny, cause you know, that's what metal looks like.
My major complaint is however the ening sequence, or atleast what they called an ending sequence. It just looked rushed and it was clear they didn't know how to make certain transitions in the story and what they did just made little to know sense and for the last twenty minutes of the movie I really had no idea what the hell was going on.
Again it was a fan made film and I really don't feel right tearing it apart like I just, but the fact that we're supposed to take such a bad story so seriously just makes the movie's faults more glaring. I've seen a few of the X-Strike Studios fan made films and they too are cheaply made with ameteur acting, but they're meant to be parodies and aren't supposed to be taken seriously.
Still it's better than most of the stuff Hollywood has done with video game movies in the past.
On a related note go watch Street Fighter Legacy. It's another fan film, but unlike the ninety minutes of crap the Mega Man movie was this is three minutes of highly concintrated awesome.
