Well this is back sooner than I planned on it, but I’m still feeling a bit under the weather, so today you get A Moment with Brad.
The English language. It is a living entity, it is constantly changing and evolving. I’m all for the evolution of the language, but sometimes it sadness me to know that it is evolving in a stupid way. Case and point Shopoholic, Chocoholic and any other use of the term oholic outside of Alcoholic. Now I get it an alcoholic is someone who has an addiction to alcohol, so a workoholic must be someone addicted to work. but in this case the route word is alcohol, and the suffix is ic, meaning pertaining to, and not oholic. The term workoholic is grammatically incorrect, but is one of those words that is slowly becoming more acceptable to use.
Thing is there are suffixes you could use that would make more grammatical sense, like phile and manic, but yeah that would imply the non dumbing down of the English language.
