So yeah, the American manned space program has ended for the time being. For the foreseeable future any American Astronaut will need to bum a ride on a Russian shuttle, which is precisely what happened to the Space Core.
I'd also like to point out that in today's comic I'm continuing the totally not culturally insensitive precedence set up way back in these comics that Russia is some sort of bizzaro parallel world were everyone wears those bulky fur hats, which I learned are called ushanka, which literally means ear hat. So yeah, I learned something today.
