Let the Feast of a Thousand Tacos Begin!

We sure love our holidays, we love our holidays so much that we love other country's holidays too, case and point, Cinco de Mayo. Cinco de Mayo, often confused as Mexican Independance day, that's actually September 16th. No Cinco de Mayo is actually a celebration of the Mexican army's victory over the French in the battle of Puebla on May 5th, 1862. Originally the holiday was only celebrated in the Mexican state of Puebla, where the battle was fought, but it has since evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage. However at this point it's pretty much evolved into a marketing gimmick for Corona and José Cuervo, celebrated by pretty much everyone, much like how St. Patrick's Day has expanded beyond the Irish and become a vehicle for Guinness and Jameson whiskey.

So it makes me think, how much longer until us Americans start eating croisants and smelly cheese for Bastelle Day, or drinking Labatt Blue and Crown Royal with our maple syrup covered Kraft Dinner on July 1st, a.k.a. Canada Day.
