So yeah I think one thing video games needs if they want to mature and become more accepted as an artform. they need to have a definitive governing body that says each year, "This game is the best our industry achieved last year, and it is worthy of merit. Such entities exist for movies, music, television and theatre. Why not video games? As it is there are hundreds of gaming magazines and websites that claim the authority to name a game of the year, and while many of them have valid reasons for their picks, there just isn't a definitive voice of the industry the way the Emmys, Grammys, Oscars, or Tonys carry. And no the Spike TV Video Game Awards do not count. Any award show that gives Madden their game of the year becomes infinitely invalid. Forever. Video games should have an award show at the end of E3, or better yet actually publicize the awards that are given out during the Game Developer's Conference, cause if anyone is going to award the industry, it should be the industry itself.
