One game I'm looking forward to this year would have to be Sega's secretive Project Needleemouse, which promises to be a classic 2D Sonic the Hedgehog game, and as a huge Sonic fan growing up I'm glad to see the blue hedgehog returning to his roots.
Let's be honest, Sega isn't doing so well these days, they've been out of the hardware business for years and their software has been getting slowly worse, needless to say they're a shadow of the company that used to be Nintendo's biggest and only true rival in the ninties.
But the person who has suffered the most in all of this is Sega's golden boy, Sonic. Once he was Mario's true rival in 2D platforming, but while the plumber made the leap to 3D smoothly, Sonic hit some speedbumps. It's been over a decade since Sonic went 3D in Sonic Adventure and while that game is a classic, every game since then has been progressively worse, like the XBox 360's "Sonic the Hedgehog." It has hit detection and camera controls so horrible that the game is widely considered unplayable.
But hopefully when Project Needlemouse comes out all of those game will be quickly forgotten, and if Capcom's classically revamped reboots of both the Mega Man and Street Fighter series in any indication then maybe we haven't seen the last of Sonic the Hegdehog.
