Danny and Gwen, I'd Ship That

August 10, 2021

Aww, they's cuddling, kind of. Yes, It's official Danny and Gwen are a couple. It's been highly implied, but never really outright said. I've said before with the introduction of Elayne that she does not exist just to be a love interest for anyone. One thing I really didn't want to do with this comic is fall into a narrative trap many semi-autobiographical webcomics have fallen into, that being creating a female character, based on nothing, who exists only to be the sexual conquest of the main character, especially when said main character in real life is woefully single and alone. To me this just reeks of self indulging wish fulfillment, and typically leads to one dimensional characters.

While Elayne was initially added to the comic to add a much needed female perspective into the mix, she has grown into a multi-faceted character, who honestly I think has gotten better development than most. Gwen however, unlike Elayne, has a real world counterpart. Her character especially wasn't created to be a love interest for the main character. Her having a real life counterpart, who I had a crush on at the time, had I written Danny and Gwen into a relationship it would have been the epitome of self indulging wish fulfillment, and honestly really, really skeevy. On the other hand I've been married to real world Gwen for over 4 years now. Maybe I can get away with Danny and Gwen a couple.

Here’s the part when I mention our Patreon, and then the tired and unfunny joke that we have a cute, but hungry puppy that is fed solely using proceeds from said Patreon. I’ll be honest with you guys. He is a very small puppy, also he’s not a puppy, he’s a six year old Miniature Schnauzer/Yorkshire Terrier that we just call a puppy because while fully grown he only weighs 10 - 11 pounds depending on how fluffy his coat is at the time, but I digress. He doesn’t eat very much, and our current Patreon proceeds are plenty of money to feed him, … … … with normal dog kibble, but what about his favorite, breast meat from rotisserie chicken? I can’t afford to feed him that every day, yet, but perhaps, if you donate just $1 a month to see all comics a week in advance, some behind the scenes looks into our working process, and other things, we can afford to spoil the dog rotten.
