Nerd Rage! You Have Been Warned.

August 30, 2010

I'll give you guys fair warning, today's news post and comic contain copious amounts of nerd rage. I figure, what's the sense of having an outlet on the intronets if you don't use it to vent every once and awhile. And what exactly am I nerd raging over? That would be the movie Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, but I have nothing against the movie, what I'm pissed at is the studios and the theaters, but I digress. Perhaps I should start from the begining.

This weekend I hung out with my cousin before he went back to college, and we wanted to go see a movie, and I bet you can guess what movie we wanted to see. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, only thing is none of the theaters around us are playing it anymore, the closest theater was over an hour away in New York State.

Needless to say I was a bit confused. I had heard good things from my friends that had seen the movie. It was getting desent reviews, but for some reason people just weren't going to see it. Now I don't pretend to understand the movie industry, but I know it's a business, but I don't understand how after less than two weeks a theater can decide that a movie is no longer profitable. Scott Pilgrim is a niche market property, and niche markets need a word of mouth to get an audience, however you can't really take the full benefit of a word of mouth reaction IF YOU PULL THE FUCKING MOVIE AFTER LESS THAN TWO WEEKS!

Lesson I've learned from this if a non Batman, Spiderman, or X-Mem related comic book related movie is coming out you better see it opening week, otherwise you might not see it at all. Happened to me with The Watchman, Kickass and now Scott Pilgrim. Hope the DVD comes out soon.

So yeah, now I ask all you peoples out there, go on the forums, let me know if the local theaters in your area are still playing it? and if so did you see it, and if so how awesome was it, cause I heard it was awesome.
