Well folks, I got my 3DS over two months ago, and finally I’ve bought a game for it. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a 3D remake to what many people consider the greatesr game ever made, and like promised I now present you a week of Zelda themed comics, well I would, but when I was scripting the third comic and it ran a little long, and seeing that it contained two separate instances of comedy I split it into two. So now I might actually make two weeks of Zelda comics. Just need to solidify a few ideas, but hey, I have over a week to do that! I love when I have a clear idea of what I’m doing in the comic for a few weeks.
So anywho, the deal with today's comic is the fact that the Zelda games, while awesome, are really guilty of reusing idea’s, to the point that it’s kind of predictable.
The trend started in the original Zelda, where young Link is charged with gathering the eight shards of the Triforce of Wisdom. This was copied in Link’s Awakening and the two Oracle games when Link again must gather eight mythical macguffins. The worst offender is probably the reoccurring theme of Link having to gather three macguffins to earn that end all, be all, ultimate magcuffin of Zelda Universe, The Master Sword. It started in A Link to the Past, when you hade to find three pendants, than Ocarina of Time, which you’ll see in the comic you have to find the three Spiritual Stones. Then Wind Waker had it’s three pearls and Twilight Princess had it’s three pieces of the Fused Shadow.
Shigeru Miyamoto is quoted as saying the next Zelda game will be a departure from the games of old, and the first thing they can do to do that is get rid of the series of three and eight macguffin collecting.
